Spiritual Direction

A Space to Explore Your Spiritual Journey

Spirituality is a deeply personal journey. Whether you are rooted in a religious tradition, exploring new spiritual perspectives, or simply seeking a deeper relationship with the sacred, spiritual direction offers a space to reflect, explore, and grow.

Spiritual direction is a relationship of compassionate presence, attentive listening, and spiritual accompaniment. Rather than providing answers or prescribing beliefs, a spiritual director walks alongside you as you explore your experiences, questions, and relationship with the Divine, the sacred, or whatever gives your life its deepest meaning.

You do not need to belong to a particular religion, hold specific beliefs, or have an established spiritual practice to benefit from spiritual direction.

What Is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is an ancient practice of spiritual companionship found in various forms across religious and contemplative traditions.

At its heart, spiritual direction is an opportunity to give intentional attention to your spiritual life. Through meaningful conversation, reflection, and attentive listening, you are invited to recognize how the sacred may be present in your everyday experiences.

Unlike traditional teaching or religious instruction, spiritual direction is not about being told what to believe or how to practice your spirituality. It is about discovering and deepening your own spiritual understanding.

The spiritual director serves as a companion, offering thoughtful questions, gentle observations, and a welcoming space for exploration.

What Can We Explore Together?

Every spiritual journey is unique. Spiritual direction provides space to explore whatever is meaningful in your spiritual life, including:

  • Relationship with the Divine or Sacred: Exploring your understanding, experiences, and relationship with God, the Divine, or the sacred in your life.
  • Spiritual Practices: Reflecting on prayer, meditation, contemplation, ritual, and other practices that nurture your spiritual life.
  • Spiritual Questions and Uncertainty: Making room for doubt, changing beliefs, religious transitions, and questions that may not have simple answers.
  • Discernment and Spiritual Growth: Attending to your inner life as you consider important decisions, changes, or invitations toward personal and spiritual growth.
  • Sacredness in Everyday Life: Recognizing the presence of meaning, wonder, and the sacred within ordinary experiences, relationships, and the natural world.
  • Spiritual Experiences: Reflecting on experiences of transcendence, mystery, connection, silence, or a sense of something greater than yourself.

There is no predetermined agenda. Our conversations begin with your experiences, interests, and questions.

An Interfaith Approach to Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction should honor the spiritual identity and personal convictions of the individual seeking accompaniment.

My approach is interfaith, welcoming individuals from diverse religious, spiritual, and philosophical backgrounds, including those who identify as spiritual but not religious, agnostic, or religiously unaffiliated.

I draw upon a broad understanding of spiritual traditions while remaining attentive to your own beliefs, values, and experiences.

My role is not to convert you, direct you toward a particular tradition, or impose my understanding of spirituality upon your journey.

Instead, our work is grounded in mutual respect, openness, and the recognition that spiritual understanding develops differently for every individual.

What Happens During a Spiritual Direction Session?

Spiritual direction sessions are conversational, reflective, and centered on your spiritual journey.

You may arrive with a particular question, an experience you wish to explore, or simply a desire to give greater attention to your spiritual life.

During our time together, I offer attentive listening, thoughtful questions, and opportunities for reflection. Silence may also be welcomed when it serves the conversation.

There is no expectation that you arrive with something prepared, nor is there pressure to reach a particular conclusion.

Sessions are 50 minutes and conducted online, allowing you to participate from a comfortable and private setting.

Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Counseling

Although spiritual direction and spiritual counseling share a foundation of compassionate accompaniment, they often serve different purposes.

Spiritual direction focuses primarily on your ongoing spiritual journey, your relationship with the sacred, and your developing spiritual understanding and practices.

Spiritual counseling provides space to explore spiritual questions, concerns, and difficulties that may arise through life experiences, transitions, relationships, loss, or questions of meaning and existence.

These approaches are not mutually exclusive. Spiritual growth and life’s challenges are often deeply connected, and our conversations may naturally include elements of both.

Neither service is psychotherapy or a substitute for licensed mental health treatment.

Begin Your Spiritual Journey

You do not need to have all the answers to begin spiritual direction. You need only a willingness to explore, reflect, and give attention to the spiritual dimensions of your life.

Whether you are seeking a deeper relationship with the sacred, exploring your beliefs, or looking for a companion along your spiritual journey, you are welcome.
